Interview And Contest With Male Model Seth

by - 8:00 AM

I would like to introduce a man that will take your breath away, both by his striking good looks and his upstanding views on topics such as women, romance, and what makes a man a hero.

He has modeled for many well known clients including SEARS, Invisalign, Landway Fleece, XBox 360, and Motorola which means, if you are like me, you can't help but feel you've seen him before. He has a very classic GQ sort of look with his lightly salted hair and chiseled facial features, yet on the flip side, he can exude the sexy bad-boy guise that some of us just can't resist.

Please make welcome, Male Model Seth.

Past The Print: Welcome to the blog, Seth. I am so glad you were able to take time out of your busy schedule to be here this week. Many of my readers were anxiously awaiting your arrival. Admittedly, I was as well. So, please, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Seth: I am the youngest of three children and am originally from the East coast. I was raised in the suburbs outside of Boston and I moved to the Los Angeles area, where I now live, when I was sixteen along with my mother and sister.

Past The Print: I see that you had gotten into modeling at age 38. It seems a strange age for someone to suddenly become a model. What happened in your life that sparked this move?

Seth: My entrance into the world of modeling was completely a fluke. At the time I was doing some consulting, personal training, and writing on fitness & nutrition. A men’s fitness magazine has started a readership model contest and I decided to enter. I did a quick photo shoot with a photographer friend and I submitted to the magazine. Well, I didn’t win…I didn’t even place, but I had these images left over. Just for fun, I posted them up on one of the modeling community websites. Three days later I was hired for my first modeling gig.

Past The Print: So, what was your first modeling gig?

Seth:  It was a fitness/beach shoot for Empyrean Photography. We shot for about three hours down in Laguna Beach, CA and I did a lot of climbing up on rocks, standing in the surf, and getting pounded by waves. A little modeling tip: when doing shoots in the surf it helps to have on dive booties or water socks so you don’t fall over every time a wave comes in.

Past The Print: What did you used to do before modeling?

Seth:  My business background is in brand and product marketing. I got into personal training and teaching self-defense when I was in college to make money on the side.

Past The Print: I truly feel like I’ve seen you before. What kinds of things have you modeled for?

Seth:  Most of my work is on the commercial print/ lifestyle side. I have done a lot of projects where I was cast as the father or husband. I have worked on shoots for Motorola, Xbox 360, Allen Sports, Landway Fleece, Amgen, etc.

Past The Print: Your pictures are amazing and your body is in top physical condition. Have you ever been asked to be a cover model for a book?

Seth:  No, but I am still hopeful ;)

Past The Print: I'm very hopeful for you too. Do you have a favorite project that you’ve worked on?

Seth:  I have been very lucky in the projects I have worked on. Two come to mind off the top of my head; one was clothing shoot up in the mountains where the conditions were just perfect. We were shooting outside in the snow and a light snowfall continued the whole day as we shot. It was like something out of a movie. The 2nd was the shoot for Motorola which took place at this amazing architectural home in San Francisco. The house was four-stories high and had these giant windows that looked out over the city. It was gorgeous.

Past The Print: I imagine with modeling, there is a good deal of traveling. Where are some places you have traveled?

Seth:  I personally have traveled a good deal (China, Thailand, Iceland, Israel, Spain, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, etc.), but not for modeling.

Modeling is a business and usually they will cast a project locally. If they can’t find the talent they need or if the client wants a specific individual then they will fly them in, but it is not as common as people think it is.

Most of my shoots have been in California (Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, etc) and a few in Miami.

Past The Print: Do you have a favorite location?

Seth:  Wow, tough question. I have been blessed to see a lot of great places; Southeast Asia is gorgeous, Iceland is amazing, and the Dead Sea in Israel is unlike anything I have ever experienced. I am really not sure I could make a choice. They are all beautiful and all different.

Past The Print: I’m sure modeling has its perks, but I imagine there are days when it is difficult and exhausting. What are things you find the most difficult about the job? What is the easiest?

Seth:  Modeling really isn’t all that glamorous. Call times on a full-day shoot are usually 6AM or earlier and the days run long. The work is fun, but by the end of a shoot I am usually beat.

I think the easiest part about the job is the work itself. Once you are shooting and the energy between the model and the photographer is flowing the time seems to fly.

Past The Print: Have you ever posed “nude” or “semi-nude”?

Seth:  I have posed semi-nude, shirtless and a bit less, but I have never posed nude.

Past The Print: What would be your most embarrassing moment in modeling?

Seth:  I would say my most embarrassing moment in modeling was when I was doing a shoot on the beach and as I was trying to pose, there were these teenagers down the beach who were watching, laughing, and making fun of my poses. It was embarrassing.

Past The Print: Well, I suppose jealousy comes in many forms, and many complex ones where teenagers are concerned. I read on your website that you are also a Certified Personal Trainer (ACE), an Advanced Open Water Diver (PADI), and a self-defense instructor. First off, how do you find the time to do it all?

Seth:  Well, my experience and certifications have come over many years. I started off in the martial arts when I was in high school and then picked-up personal training in college and later scuba diving.

The tricky part is staying current. I still read a lot of fitness magazines and fitness journals, and I teach self-defense classes when I can, but my diving is pretty confined to vacations and the occasional day trip to Catalina Island.

Past The Print: Since most of my readers are women, I think self-defense is an important topic to discuss. What would you consider the most important things women should remember when it comes to self-defense?

Seth:  Great question. I have taught women’s self-defense courses in the past and the one key element I try to drive home is awareness. We live in a world filled with constant distractions; text messages, cell phone calls, etc. When you are walking somewhere, whether to your car or just down the street, you need to be focused on where you are, what is around you, and any potential threats. That may sound a little paranoid, but truly the best way to prevent a physical encounter is to avoid the situation completely. In class we even talk about how to walk through a parking garage. As you probably have heard, you want be aware, confident, and have your keys in your hand, but you also don’t want to walk directly next to a pillar or doorway where someone could be hiding. If there are mirrors hanging in the garage, use them to see what is around you. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to follow your intuition (women in general have a more developed sense of intuition than men do). If the situation feels somehow wrong, don’t go into it. That could mean waiting until other people are around or just taking a moment to discern what exactly seems wrong and taking the appropriate steps.

Past The Print: Are you currently teaching any self-defense courses?

Seth:  I try to teach as often as I can. I am one of the staff instructors at the Silver Crane Dojo in Chatsworth, CA. They have an on-going women’s self-defense program that runs the 2nd Saturday of every month. http://www.silvercranedojo.com/.

Past The Print: What are some of your other past times or hobbies?

Seth:  I like to stay active so I do a good amount of physical activity; I bike, workout in the gym, run stairs, and take spinning classes. I also love to walk which is great because I live in an area that has a lot of nice areas to go for a stroll.

On the quieter side, I read a lot (I usually have two or three books on my nightstand), go to movies, and hang out with friends at local restaurants or coffee shops.

Past The Print: And since this is a romance blog, I hope it doesn’t bother you to answer a few questions that are a bit more personal. For starters, are you married? single? in a relationship?

Seth:  I am single.

Past The Print: From looking at your photos, I can tell that one of your greatest assets is your chest. I have to say that some of my readers even have their own “chest collections” and I wouldn’t be surprised to see yours added after this interview. On that note, what is your favorite asset on a woman?

Seth:  LOL…wow, there is a lot I like to look at. I would say the first thing is a woman’s eyes. You can tell a lot from the eyes; whether they are sad, happy, or full of excitement. From there, in terms of assets, I would say butt and legs. I do love a good set of buns and a nice set of legs. ;)

Past The Print: What is your idea of the perfect romantic date?

Seth:  I am pretty uncomplicated when it comes to dating and I live by the water so my perfect romantic date would probably involve walking along the water to one of the small local places nearby. Sitting and having dinner; listening to the sound of the waves, the feeling of the wind coming off of the water, and just enjoying each others company.

I think a romantic evening is about the connection, so it doesn’t really matter where you are – walking on the beach, a rainy day indoors, or a snowball fight outside (very popular currently).

BTW – I throw a mean snowball. My throwing speed is just OK, but I am very accurate.

Past The Print: What is something a woman can do to gain your full attention?

Seth:  Hit me with a snowball…just kidding.

Quite simply: kindness, confidence, and compassion. There is nothing sexier than a woman who has a sense of herself and has a kind heart. There is no artifice or arrogance, no desire to make sure you know who she is, she simply is.

I think as I have gotten older I learned to put more emphasis on what’s inside. Not that I don’t appreciate a beautiful woman, but I put at least equal weight on who she is as a person.

If a women wants to gain my full attention she needs to be kind as well as charismatic, thoughtful as well as beautiful, and have a heart that comes through her words, her actions, and the twinkle in her eye.

Past The Print: Is there anyone is this world you'd really like to meet?

Seth:  There are a lot of people I would like to meet – some are political figures, some scientists, and some philosophers. I amazed at the brilliance that is out there and people’s ability to connect, through either their words or actions, with others that they have may never met before.

I recently got to meet fitness model/writer Jamie Eason which was nice. She is a sweet person and I was really very taken at how well she handled all her fans.

People that have that ability to be genuine and open with so many amaze me.

Past The Print: Is there anything you cannot resist indulging upon?

Seth:  Dark chocolate and we are talking about the good stuff here – 70% cocoa or higher. I buy one particular brand that is 87% cocoa. Some people don’t like it that high, but I love it.

Past The Print: We love to read about courageous and bold heroes, who save the day—and the woman—in our romance novels. What do you think is the most important virtue a man should have?

Seth:  I’ll give you three that I think are critical: Courage, Compassion and Humility.
  • Courage to accept your obligations and do what you can to help those around you, even to stay present when you know you can’t help.
  • Compassion, because we are all on this planet together and, as much as possible, we need to try to appreciate the circumstances of those around us.
  • Humility (this is one I would like to see a lot more of these days), because each of us is simply part of a larger framework and none of us is innately better than any other, some of us have just been more blessed.
Past The Print: Who would you regard as your hero?

Seth:  The more I read and hear about him the more I respect Albert Einstein. He was brilliant, that we all know, but he also had a sense of humor and didn’t take himself too seriously. I think the ability to realize greatness and still be humble and maybe even a little quirky (like the rest of us) is something to be honored.
